West Kildonan Collegiate
Staff Professional Development Overview 2021
WK staff PD focused on two of our current school plan priorities and focus areas:
- Address and develop frameworks for creating and maintaining a safe space during the COVID19 pandemic. Adapt to current realities and follow the guidelines developed by the division, Manitoba Health and Manitoba Education. Strengthen teaching strategies, professional learning, student engagement and family connections through COVID19 time.
- Elevate consciousness around racism locally/in Canada/systemic. Further deepen understandings of Canada’s colonial history, the treatment of black, Indigenous, peoples of colour and those identifying at 2SLGBTQ+; examine current issues related to Black Lives Matter, Indigenous relations, the 2SLGBTQ+ community and WK’s evolving cultural diversity; further develop actions that address prejudice/discrimination, promote equity, deepen historical and cultural understanding and celebrate diversity.
