This year our 11th annual 7 Oaks Grad Pow Wow occurred virtually. All of our 7 Oaks grads were honoured by our divisional elders, Mary Courchene and Dan Thomas. Both spoke highly of all 7 Oaks grads and their achievements, wishing them well and encouraging them to take care of themselves, their families and to tread softly on the earth.

Coco Ray Stevenson hosted the virtual pow wow. He’s been hosting since the inception of the divisional pow wow 11 years ago. He honoured grads with a drum song and introduced a variety of drum groups and dancers. The pow wow also honoured our grad pow wow scholarship recipients from each of our 7 Oaks High Schools. Rayanne Atatiste was our WK pow wow scholarship recipient and we congratulate her along with all of our other grads who learn about Indigenous history and current realities. We hope that all of our WK students walk alongside each other with respect and care for each other. The pow wow is an example of an inclusive cultural ceremony where all nations are welcome and enter into the excitement of drum groups, regalia and many kinds of dance. The attached pictures give families a glimpse into the virtual pow wow. All are welcome to click on the Channel 7 Oaks link above and tune into the recording. Miigwech to Sherri Denysuik and her committee for coordinating the pow wow each year and the crew at Channel 7 Oaks and the board office for their work in producing this community event. We look forward to an in person grad pow wow May 27th2021. Hope to see all WK families there at the 7 Oaks Soccer Plex.
