Nellie’s Knitting Nook is a group of Knitters at West Kildonan Collegiate. We meet every Wednesday after school. We knit and donate our work to elementary schools in 7oaks School Division. Our latest project has been working on the Poppy Blanket. Together we knit 500 poppies.
The Poppy Project officially began on November 3rd, 2018 when the first Facebook post went up. The goal of this project is for our community to knit/crochet/sew enough poppies to make a massive poppy blanket to unveil on Remembrance Day to honour our soldiers. The blanket had over 8000 poppies and 2000 ribbons dedicated to fallen soldiers and veterans.
Sera – “I chose to work on the poppy blanket because I believe that it is very important to honour all those who gave their lives for this country and it is important to keep their memory alive. I also joined because I really liked the idea of the community coming together to make something to honour the soldiers.”
Meagan – “I joined the poppy blanket project because I thought it would be fun to learn how to knit poppies and because I thought the idea of a community coming together to create something that would honour our soldiers is awesome.”
