Choir at West Kildonan Collegiate!
It has been an exciting year in the Choir Family at WK! Some many different events throughout the year that we celebrated! In addition to regular classes, and school concerts and events, the West K Choirs have had a very busy year.
First, our school was invited to perform at the Prairie Voices “Between Friends” Concert. Colla Voce worked hard preparing music in a short window of time in order to prepare for this event. It was a conducting “bucket list” item for Ms. Matheson!
Throughout the year singers also participated in a variety of festivals. Our first performance of the year is often ChoralFest, which is a learning festival. It is a great opportunity to become exposed to performances, and a great start to the year. In March, choirs participated in Winnipeg Music Festival and Brandon Jazz Festival.
Another highlight of the year for many singers was the Cantando Music Festival in Edmonton. We grew closer as a family and stronger as singers in the week. We had wonderfully challenging workshops and enjoyed watching a variety of fantastic performances!
Our year rounded out with celebrating music at Arts in the Park. A highlight for many students, Arts in the Park is a great way to finish the school year, and celebrate achievements in a casual setting! There is no element of competition, and students make music for the pure enjoyment of it!
Some brief notes about choir this year:
• 75 students travelled to Edmonton with the Band and Choir for the Cantando Festival
• 143 singers sing in choirs at West Kildonan Collegiate
• There are 6 different ensembles students can participate in
• Students participated in 25 different performances throughout the year!
