West Kildonan Alumni and Head Coach of the West Kildonan Boys and Girls Soccer Program, did not get the result he desired this time around.
Austin Benevides was a Provincial All Star when his team lost in the finals of the M.H.S.A.A. Provincials back in high school in 2015. He was selected team Most Valuable Player and was honoured with the Brian Swan Award for Athletics and Academics. His university career was cut short when the University of Winnipeg folded their program during his first training camp, so he continued to play Men’s Premier Soccer and then caught the coaching bug.
Benevides shows maturity beyond his years. His commitment to his former high school is impressive. He manages to run practices and coach both teams in Indoor AND Outdoor while in the 4th year of his Athletic Therapy Degree.
In his first season of a duel coaching role, both the boys and girls were League Champions, but the boys did not advance to the final four, while the girls lost a heartbreaker in the semi’s in a shootout. They completed the year with a Bronze K.P.A.C. finish for the girls, and a Silver for the boys.
This season, the teams both finished first once again in the League, but had to settle for Silver medals in the finals.
Player of the Game went to Keeper Zack Bergagnini
Player of the game for the Girls went to Kia Hryciw-Pang.
It’s been a long 2 years but don’t feel bad for Austin. He’s already getting the outdoor squads ready for a run at a K.P.A.C. Outdoor banner…
