The West Kildonan Collegiate Remembrance Day Service was held on Friday, November 10th, 2017 at 11:00am. Our heartwarming program was filled with music, song, dance, poetry, and thought provoking speakers honouring people who selflessly fought in wars and who gave their lives for our freedom. Elder Dan Thomas began our service by offering an opening prayer. Grade 12 students Andrei and Rebecca acted as masters of ceremony for our service. Additionally, Grade 12 student and member of Operation Legacy of the War Amps of Canada, Madisson Howanyk, was our guest speaker who helped to remind us of the importance of Remembrance Day. Madisson personally recognized and paid tribute to all of the heroes of war who not only fought for our freedom but who also started The War Amps of Canada Child Amputee Program which assists all children in Canada that are limb deficient. Madisson further explained that this year marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele. The Battle of Passchendaele will always be remembered as a symbol of the worst horrors of the First World War with more than 4000 Canadians killed and approximately 12,000 wounded.
